No disappointment, Dior kicked off Paris Fashion Week in Paris Longchamp Racecourse with a fabulous dance performance. Dior’s Spring 2019 Show opened with a dance performance by Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal. As rose petals fell from the ceiling, dancers fluttered on the catwalk.
On the latest season’s show, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri was inspired by master modern dancers like Loïe Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Ruth Saint-Denis. Similar to a ballerina in the dance room, models wore leotards and a long flowing gauze skirt coming with music.
The gauze skirt is also paired with the brand’s most classic Bar Jacket, which expresses the feminine but powerful image of the female dancer. The designer also uses the daily costumes of male dancers as a reference. Loose over-the-knee shorts and beam trousers, tooling jackets… These slightly masculine costumes also reflect the powerful female dancers from the side.
Dance shoes must be indispensable. Dior has a lot of nude and black strappy ballet flats. And there is room for the new look of Dior saddle bags.
Maria Grazia Chiuri not only expresses the feminine attitude of the female dancers but also reveals the female power, which is the theme she constantly expressed to us.
